Not sure what medical you need? Start with a conversation
Medicals have advanced since we were in school or may have joined the forces. They’re not to be feared but embraced as an opportunity to work upstream on your health and to prevent or catch issues before they become problematic. Moreover, they are a chance to set a baseline for future comparison and monitoring (for example, PSA testing) and to begin a healthcare relationship with a trusted GP.
There are many medical offerings on the market which are excellent and a good start, but none that can be as bespoke as a discussion with an experienced doctor about you, your lifestyle, your health experiences and expectations, who will then perform appropriate tests and interpret results for you as an individual. Cholesterol testing and the need to take statins are a very good example of such a dilemma that may require a nuanced medical discussion.
One size does not fit all
If you’re not sure what medical you need or how to start this process, just book in and start the conversation. A standard appointment or extended appointment to talk this through will be the basis of either a one-off or, preferably, an ongoing relationship. You do not need to necessarily book for a bespoke medical or a standard male or female medical.
For example, for the menopause, we don’t offer a specific menopause medical because that could be too prescriptive. As the menopause is a varied and complicated medical and lifestyle condition, and conversation and testing can go in various different directions, an appointment with a GP of your choosing to discuss this issue is the place to start. We all have huge experience in this area.
Sure, if you are competing in a sports event or motorsports event, charity skydiving, or need a form signed for travel or that bucket-list bungee jump in Bolivia, we can advise and oblige. Then there are occupational and visa medicals – we can do some, but not all. Just ask, and we will reply promptly.
WPGP – we’re here for you.
